What Is Medicare Advantage?
Part C of the Medicare program allows private insurance companies to contract with Medicare to provide Medicare beneficiaries with their benefits. Through Medicare Advantage, you receive the same benefits as you would with Original Medicare, except some plans, also offer additional benefits that you may want or need.
Who Is Eligible For Medicare Advantage?
Anyone currently enrolled in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) could be eligible to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan. This group of individuals includes anyone age 65 or older and people younger than age 65 who have been diagnosed with a qualifying disability. In most cases, people who qualify due to a disability must have collected Social Security Disability benefits for at least 24 months to qualify for Medicare.
People with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or end-stage renal disease can qualify for Medicare much sooner.
Can You Have Part D and Part C Coverage?
In some cases, you may be able to hold a Part D prescription drug plan while covered by Medicare Advantage. This is only the case if your Medicare Advantage plan doesn’t include prescription drug coverage.
Can You Have Medigap and Part C Coverage?
