What To Do If You Lose Your Medicare Card!

People who enroll in Medicare receive low-cost health insurance benefits through the federal government. When you sign up for Medicare, you are sent a card that includes all of the details about your coverage. Doctors and other providers can use this card to route charges to your insurance carrier.

If you lose your Medicare card, don’t worry. It’s easy to get a replacement.

If You Lose Your Original Medicare Card, Do This

If your Medicare card is lost or stolen, or you can’t use it anymore because it is damaged, you can replace it by calling Medicare. The number for Medicare is 1-800-MEDICARE. It’s also possible to order a replacement card through the mymedicare.gov portal.

If You Lose Your Medicare Advantage Card, Do This

If you have Medicare Advantage, Medicare won’t be the one to send you a replacement. Instead, call your plan provider and have them send you a card.

Make Copies

You can use photocopies of your insurance cards if you don’t have the actual card available. Make sure to create copies when you receive a new card. This can make it easier to provide insurance information when you cannot use your actual insurance card.
